Resilience by Keith Peraino

Sometimes people face “dark” days and “dark” times. Whether it is a job loss, family problem, something causes us to fall into a time of depression. When we fall we either have a hard time getting back up or never get back up and just give up. Due to falling into depression, that person will suffer from a permanent loss of a piece of their confidence. However there are other people, when there are dark days or dark times, jump right up and start again. They prosper and try desperately through their dark times. For example, they take advantage of being laid off by creating it as an opportunity to learn and start again. You may ask what pushes a person to prosper through their dark times, and the answer is, resilience. A resilient person possesses a specific set of characteristics.

First, they accept the harsh reality they are facing which allows them to begin a process of rising back up to the top. Secondly, they find meaning in dark times. This gives them the motivation to rise up. And finally, they have an ability to work with what they have and improvise during these terrible times. These people are separated from other people due to their resilience. Resilience can help you recover from almost any harsh and brutal experiences.

To acquire resilience, one must attain the three characteristics of a person who is resilient. The first step is to face reality. Instead of falling into a state of denial, take a hard and long look and down to earth view on your current situation. This allows you to come up with ideas of how to get through it and prosper and grow along the way. You are training yourself to thrive through harsh and dark times. The second step is to find meaning during the dark times. When hard times strike, you should try to the best of your capabilities to not view yourself as the victim and cry and fall into denial. Rather, devise and construct a meaning about your suffering and use that as motivation to rise up and thrive through your dark times. Building these bridges sets you up for an eve
