We are all leaders. To become and stay that leader we are, we have to love what we do. If we do not love what we do, we tend to fall into that trap and the motivation and goals seem unreachable. We all have our own goals and aspirations. To get there or stay there, we sometimes to manage out time efficiently and effectively. Her are a few things we can do daily to manage our time better:
1) With the importance of email communication, it is fairly easy for our email to build up in just one day and there are times we miss some emails. Try responding to all emails prior to the end of the day. And when it is the end of the day, we must learn to put down the electronics and not be stuck in the cell phone, lap top, etc...
2) Create that "things to do" list. However, here is the catch, write them down in your log book. No electronic lists, do it the old way in writing. Our brains tend to remember these things better when we write them instead of relying on technology and electronic lists.
3) Ensure that you know what the calendar looks like the next day. Do not field that phone call without looking at the calendar. This avoids conflicts.
4) Try limiting all calls to no more than 15 to 20 minutes per call. Except in those conference calls that are needed, all other calls, even to family and friends, should last no more than 15 to 20 minutes. We have to get to the point and yet leave enough time to accomplish those things for the day. If the calls remain too long, we tire of getting on the phone and then revert back to electronic communication, which creates the impersonal communication.
5) Keep your work space clean and organized. If it is organized, the easier it is to know what has to be worked on without having to look for it.
6) Try saying positive. It is definitely easier said than done. Always keep in mind, that failure is something we will always do. View failure as just part of your job experience. Eventually with the hard work, it is replaced by success and accomplishment.
7) Try to avoid checking in with co workers using electronic communication. People invariably want and need that personal communication. Sometimes, that 5 minute call shows the respect that all people need and most importantly when we speak to people as opposed to texts or emails, there is little room for miscommunication.
